During a visit to a mental asylum, a visitor asked the Director what the criteria is that defines if a patient should be admitted. "Well," said the Director, "we fill up a bathtub. Then we offer a teaspoon, a teacup, and a bucket to the patient and ask the patient to empty the bathtub." Okay, here's your test: Would you use the spoon, the teacup or the bucket? "Oh, I understand," said the visitor. "A normal person would choose the bucket, as it is larger than the spoon." What do you think should be the director's response?

If you had a 5-liter bowl and a 3-liter bowl, and an unlimited access to water, how would you measure exactly 4 liters?

Fill the 5-litre bowl and pour water to the 3-litre bowl, which you empty afterwards. From the 5-litre bowl pour the 2 remaining litres to the 3-litre bowl. Refill the 5-litre bowl and fill in the 3-litre bowl (with 1 litre), so there stay the 4 required litres in the 5-litre bowl.

Maybe you still need an explanation if your head can contain only 2 litres of ideas

A farmer wants to cross the river to go to the market. He has a boat but it is not a very big one. The farmer is going to the market with a dog, a sack of corn, and chicken. The farmer's boat is only big enough to take himself and one of the other things with him across the river. If the chicken is left alone with the corn it will eat the corn. If the chicken is left alone with the dog too, the dog will eat the chicken. Can you think of a way for the farmer to get his sack of corn, his chicken and his dog across the river?

The farmer can take the chicken across first and leave it on the other side of the river. Then crossing back alone, he puts the dog into the boat and crosses with it. Dropping off the dog on the other side of the river, the farmer picks up the chicken, and brings it back to the first side where they all started from. He leaves the chicken there, but he picks up the the sack of corn, and takes the corn across the river and leaves the corn with the dog. Now he can cross the river with the boat, empty again, and get the chicken from the other side and bring it to join the dog and the corn. Done!

Charley Chicken's Water Cycle
When I was young, I used to think clouds were made from cotton wool stuck in the sky.
But then I saw that clouds move around in the sky, so they couldn't be stuck.
Then one day I saw smoke from a fire blowing up into the clouds. So then I thought clouds were a kind of smoke.
When I asked my Grandpa, he laughed and said ...
... “Charley Chickee, you are a funny little fowl. Clouds don't come from smoke. Smoke comes from fire, Clouds come from water.”
KpuCock! Now just how did that water get up in the sky? So I threw some water into the sky to see if it would turn into clouds.
I just got wet.
So after my grand-daddy finished laughing, he told me that it wasn't that kind of water. Clouds are made of water that has turned to air.
Just like how steam comes off when we boil water ...
... the sun can boil tiny drops of water out of the lakes and rivers and even from the ground.
The drops are like air and can't be seen. These little water drops float up, up, up, up into the sky.
After some time, the drops come together and now we see them, because they have formed a cloud of water droplets.
More and more drops come together, other things happen, and now the water in the cloud becomes like, like, like ... water!
The clouds grow dark and heavy from so many droplets being together and then the water starts falling and now we see it and feel it as rain!
So you see my friends, clouds come from water and water falls from the clouds!
This fallen rain-water runs along the ground into lakes into rivers and into the sea.
Then the sun heats and lifts the water drops up again and it becomes rain again and falls again and then it runs again and rains again into lakes again and rivers again.
Er, that sounds funny, but I’m sure you know what I mean … It just keeps going round and round and round …
